SKIN LOVES EASTER CHOCOLATE

GET GLOWING EASTER SKIN WITH 2 BEAUTIFUL CHOCOLATE FACE MASKS YOU COULD LITERALLY EAT!

We all remember getting told that chocolate is bad for your skin and chocolate will give you pimples. Research now shows that it’s more likely the sugar and milk in the chocolate giving you skin complaints. The good news is the cacao part of chocolate is full of antioxidants and is brilliant for your skin.

Chocolate that we buy in the shops starts its life as the cacao tree - more specifically the cacao bean on that tree. The scientific name is Theobroma cacao which in Greek translates as “food of the gods” – but we already knew that! Turns out cacao is also “food for the skin” too. Cacao powder is the raw ingredient that is cold pressed from the cacao bean. It can be a little bitter especially if you’re used to eating choccy bars from the shop, but in this raw state, cacao is full of antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory and has anti-aging properties.

Chocolate's Skin Benefits

Here are some amazing benefits of cacao for your skin:

  • Fights acne and pimples by soothing skin and reduces redness from inflammation.
  • Slows down skin aging. Cacao is full of antioxidants that promote collagen and elastin production which provides us with a youthful appearance.
  • Improves skin hydration.
  • Improves skin elasticity and skin firming.
  • Promotes an even complexion. The caffeine in cacao can help to reduce under eye bags and brighten up dull skin.
  • Antioxidants help with skin repair and renewal.

With Easter just around the corner, why not extend your chocolate indulgence to include your skin. Here are 2 fabulous and simple chocolate mask recipes you can make with ingredients likely already in your kitchen:

1. Super Choc Exfoliating Mask

1 tsp coconut oil (or olive, almond or grapeseed oil)
1 tsp raw sugar (or white sugar)
1 tsp raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder)

Start by cleansing your skin. Mix the ingredients together to form a paste and apply gently in circular motions to exfoliate skin. Leave on for 15mins then rinse off with warm water. Apply a lovely moisturiser. (Tip #1 – lean over the sink when applying for excess sugar crystals to fall, saves cleaning!)

2. Ultra Nourishing Choc Mask

1 tsp raw cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
1/4 Avocado (mashed)
2 tsp coconut milk (or any other milk)
2 tsp coconut oil (or olive, almond, or grapeseed oil)

Start by cleansing your skin. Mix all ingredients to form a thick cream. Apply to the face thickly in circular motions. Leave for 15mins then rinse off with warm water. Apply a lovely moisturiser.

(Tip #2 – for either mask, use a dark coloured face washer to remove the mask. Cacao can stain light coloured towels and though it does wash out fairly well, it’s still best to use a dark coloured washer.)

Ultimate Easter Skin Indulgence

Grab yourself a couple of chocolates, a beautiful drink of sparkling wine (or a refreshing tea), run a lovely warm bath, then simply relax in the bath with your chocolate mask, choccies and a drink. Bliss!

Who says kids get all the fun at Easter? These decadent chocolate masks will leave you feeling completely relaxed with bonus beautiful, smooth, glowing skin! Happy Easter :)
